Karador is awesome as dredge, combo, or just a grindy card advantage deck. Junk: Junk has arguably the best removal of any color combo, lots of good combos and engines, and several powerful commanders. I don't think Naya is really worth going for unless you're either playing Uril or building a casual deck, though. Naya: Probably the weakest overall, but also gives you access to Uril, the Miststalker, who is arguably the most powerful voltron commander in any color combination. This remains true on almost any attempted power level too.Īll three G/W/X color combos can be fun and/or powerful, depending on the commander and how you build the deck. I highly suggest, instead, using blue for it's obvious card advantage power in draw while knowing that the more random nature of those draws will create a diverse and complex set of unique scenarios with which to challenge your deck. I highly enjoy bant's combination of green for resource management, green and white for effective permanent management, and blue for effective spell and card advantage management.įinally, if you want to challenge yourself then do not add black as a third color, it offers far too consistent tutors and the decks that are financially supported and well tuned with black will not be decks that tend to present a high degree of variety in the way they play out. I rarely more than splash red and I prefer to win via the attack phase but only after the game is firmly under control. I'm a very 'bant'-y player and my opinions and playstyle come with that bias admitted, not that I can't enjoy other colors but I recognize and actively look to use green and/or blue in almost every deck with white being a close third and black in fourth. I still maintain several of the above actively. I have had versions of all of the above and enjoyed them highly with each deck having a distinctly different feel than the others. Ghave - Built and rebuilt several different ways, several more fun than others Trostani - Casual funstuff with a dose of gw-tokens

Sisay - Legendary Toolbox/goodstuff (deconstructed due to lack of variability) Karametra - Mass Creature Swarm (50+ creatures) Jen - Hyperbantcontrol, Jen is main wincon My personal favorites, in no particular order:

There are other good commanders in Bant and Necra but Ghave and Derevi are just so much better than the other options - in my opninion. GWR isn't as strong as GWB or GWU don't bother with Naya if you're looking for the best of the best. Black will give you some valuable tutors and low investment card draw engines as well as some of the best spot removal in the game. He can be random counters themed tokens, themed, combo themed, planeswalker themed, or goodstuff with equal success and is often multiples at once. The ability to use Ghave as token engine, sacrifice engine, and combo engine all at once is impressive. Green and white can take care of most permanents by themselves and blue adds a few more options and stack control.

Using Derevi as a card draw, mana ramp, vigilance, or land denial is really powerful. It's gonna be hard for anything other than Ghave, Guru of Spores or Derevi, Empyrial Tactician to take the title of "Best GWx Commander".ĭerevi can amass large amounts of both tangible and hypothetical card advantage with just the simplest of engines.
